ARREST: Parkhurst home invasion

August 28, 2015

On the 13th of August at approx 20h34 home owners in Parkhurst were seeing their guests out. A white vehicle drove past, stopped and two armed males exited the vehicle. They held up the home owners and their guests and took them inside the home.

The home owner managed to push his panic button which alerted CORTAC, who dispatched a tactical vehicle to respond immediately. On arrival CORTAC's Tactical Officers noticed the door to the victim's vehicle was ajar and the light inside the car was on. This was seen as suspicious, and they radioed for the second and third vehicles to assist.

CORTAC Tactical Officers climbed over the wall saw the victims tied up inside the house. The suspects spotted the Tactical Officers and fled by jumping over a wall. The Tactical Officers gave chase, jumping adjacent property walls. The suspects managed to flee into the suspect vehicle in an adjacent road, but not before dropping all the stolen items in neighbouring properties.

Due to the disturbance and pressure the Tactical Officers applied to the suspects by chasing them, one of the suspects dropped his cell phone, which was recovered. The CORTAC debrief team retrieved CCTV footage from the area, debriefed victims and created a suspect character sketch.

With high-tech cellphone technology at CORTAC's disposal, CORTAC were able to assist the Parkview Police by retrieving vital information from the suspect's cellphone. The CORTAC debriefing team analyzed the information and started identifying and tracking possible suspects.  One suspect was identified and had prior convictions against him.

Last week in conjunction with Parkview Police, CORTAC went into Alexandra at around midnight to search different locations and to question possible suspects. The CORTAC team consisting of our Strike team, Viper (our K-9 Tactical Officer) and Detectives from Parkview Police Station hit nine addresses. Together we managed to arrest two suspects and recover three firearms. The investigation continues.

CORTAC would like to commend the Parkview Police Station for their professionalism and allowing us to assist in bringing the criminals to book.
